The adapter for a hand tool, e.g. an open-jaw wrench, has a body (10) with a driving end as a polygonal projection (13) to be gripped by the wrench jaw with a connecting section (130) which can be coupled. A pressure body (20) can be fixed over the driving end with a matching connecting section (21), so that the wrench is clamped in place at the driving end between the pressure body and the driving end of the adapter body. The clamping action converts the wrench and the adapter into a one-piece ratchet socket wrench tool.
