The method involves uniquely associating at least one number to more than one unit, forming an analog value for the number and data of a unit to be transmitted, sending this to an analog input module, ending the digitized value in a bus message to a communications bus and receiving it via bus couplers, outputting the digital value as an analog value and the receiving unit selecting the number of the sending unit and data from the received value.
