The well (1) consists of a pipe (2), divided into separate segments (3,4), with the lower end of each pipe fitting into the expanded upper end (9) of the pipe below. The equipment on the surface includes a hand-pump (32) and tanks for water (38) and sealing material (39). A first hose (25) brings water to inflatable rings (21,22) at the top and bottom of a piston (10) which applies the sealing material. The sealing material (48) is pumped down a second hose (28) and is spread by a rubber ring (27) into a pressure space (29) between the two seals. The sealing material flows into any leaks and then hardens.
