The pipelayer tows a sledge on the sea-bed which carries the equipment for lowering or pivoting the vertical spray arms (17-26) on each side of the pipe (5). The leading arms (17,18) have interleaved horizontal branches (23-26) and forward facing pressure nozzles (12). The L-shaped after arms (19-22), two on each side, have the horizontal portions (23-26) located under the pipe and include forward facing nozzles. The L-shaped arms increase in length rearwards down to the trench depth.
