The swing unit (02) at a motor vehicle, e.g. the flap to close a loading opening or an armrest, has a ratchet mechanism (09) and an operating mechanism. To open the swing unit, the ratchet mechanism acts with a bolt system (01) to engage the locking bolt (04) and hold it automatically in the shrouded retracted position by ratchet bolts (11) when the bolt is released by an automatic ratchet lock action. To lock the swing unit in the closed position, the ratchet is released and the bolt moves forward into the locking position automatically when the swing unit is returned to the closed position.
