The lifting device consists of a cable for fixing to one end of the splitting wedge and taken over a rotating diverting roller before fitting the other end to the log section to be brought upright by means of a claw. A chain is fitted between the claw and the cable so that the effective length can be varied. The roller is on a tube attached to the piston.
