A magnitude is determined from gas (9) leaving the shift reactor (8) and compared with a given value. The gas is rejected, should the given value be exceeded. At least part of the stream is returned to the shift reactor when the magnitude is less than the given value. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding reformer plant.
