The valve plate (9) is mounted on a guide rod (8) extending through the pipe (4). A stop (11) on the rod works with a holding component (12) moved into an arresting- or a released position in accordance with the level or density of the light fluid. These components (11, 12) can hold the valve plate (9) in an open position. On release, the valve is moved automatically under spring loading, into its closed position. Preferred features: Bias is effected by the compression spring (18) on the guide rod (8). Movement of the holding component (12) is caused by the float (16) or by a sensor measuring the light fluid level or the density of its layer. The drain pipe (4) or supply tube is angled, with the guide rod in the vertical pipe section (6) passing through the wall of the horizontal section (5). The compression spring surrounds the guide rod section extending out of the pipe and is supported on the pipe wall. The compression spring is contained in a fluid tight casing (19). The holding component (12) is a horizontally-moved section mounted on rollers (13). The stop (11) is on the section of the guide rod (8) below the valve component (9) and is a plate.
