A carpet industry tufting machine has a moving thread-lever (3) which esp. draws the thread required looping length required only from a bobbin. The thread is drawn when the lever is at a position approx. 5 mm before the reverse point away from the needle. The subsequent thread feed required until reaching the reverse point, is drawn only from a section of thread near the needle (8). The tufting machine links two or more layers of fabric by looping on one side. The action is effected by a needle in conjunction with a thread feed lever (3) and two thread tensioning units, each independently driven by the sewing machine main shaft. The needle foot (5) clamps against the thread (6) when the needle (8) is inserted into the fabric (10). The pressure plate (7) located immediately behind the needle (8) is of small area.
