The control method measures the gas flow and pressure of the respiration path upon short-term interruption of the respiration gas supply during an initial expiration phase and during a subsequent expiration phase without interruption of the respiration gas feed, for determining the resistance and compliance of the lungs. The resistance and compliance are used with the measured gas flow for calculating the actual respiration path pressure, compared with that measured intiallly, to provide a difference value for regulation of at least one parameter of the respiration gas supply. An Independent claim for a device for controlling at least one parameter of the respiration gas supply in an artificial respirator is also included.
