The connection state of the digital appliance to a set-top box is determined by detecting reception state of signals supplied through the set-top box connecting terminal. Any one of the signals supplied to digital appliance from set-top box and external input terminals of the appliance, is selected by detecting signal receiving state of set-top box and external input terminals. The selected signal is output, in response to user request. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for processing input signals of display appliance.
