The method involves providing an electric appliance with a loudspeaker (32) and LEDs (34a-34e, 36a-36d, 36`a-36`d) for sensor units (16b-16e, 18a-18d), and an operating device (10) that is connected with the loudspeaker and LEDs. Inputs at the sensor units are incorrect and/or not implementable in respective actual operating condition in a learning-operating mode of the device. The inputs are recognized by the operating device. The loudspeaker and the LEDs are declared as incorrect and/or are outputted as feedback. The operating device displays one of the inputs as user guide by the LEDs. An independent claim is also included for an electric device for implementing a method of operating an electric appliance.
