The roof of the vehicle has a base frame (20) rigidly fitted to the body (10) of the vehicle, holding devices on the base frame, and a roof module mounted and exchangeable on the holding devices. For each base frame several different roof modules for selective use are provided. At least one of the modules is a full roof, one may have a sliding element, or one may have a folding element. The roof module is equipped with a spoiler element forming an access to the outside air for ventilation and also serving as a wind deflector in the front region of the roof module. An Independent claim is included for a vehicle with a base frame which has a front and rear cross member (21,22).
