Building integration technologies for photovoltaic systems are, beside cell & module improvements, one of the most important aspects to reduce the price of solar electricity. SOLRIF (Solar Roof Integration Frame), a new mounting system for inclined roof has been developed under consideration of economical, ecological and functional aspects known at the present time. The SOLRIF aluminium profile system is designed for framing almost any kind and brand of PV laminate. Such modules can be mounted like roof tiles or other conventional roofing material resulting in a simple and highly efficient installation. Each element can be mounted or dismounted individually. SOLRIF modules can also be easily combined with traditional roofing materials. Beside integration into the roof the design of the lower edge is remarkable: It allows free drain of water and dust. Thus the problem of soiling along the lower edge of the module is avoided. Several installations with SOLRIF have been realised. The system has proven its excellent performance in all relevant terms such as aesthetics, mounting speed, roofing function, flexibility and cost effectiveness. The SOLRIF changes a standard PV laminate into a roofing material at no additional costs. In order to achieve the high mounting speed, plugs for the electrical interconnection are recommended. Some minor improvement can be incorporated in future projects. Special attention is given to standard solutions for roofing edges and joints with other roofing materials. In parallel negotiations are taking place with module manufacturers about production and introduction of SOLRIF in their manufacturing line. Collaboration has been established between Enecolo and ECN (The Netherlands Energy Research Foundation). Main goal will be the further improvement of the system, the test under severe weather conditions and approval testing.
