The baling machine which can make large bales from several independently pressed smaller bales has two binding units associated with the pressing channel (2) of the large bale press, with one binding unit for binding individual small bales and both binding units used simultaneously in unison to bind several small bales into one large bale whereby both binding units are used with the same knotting apparatus. The binding unit which can be formed as a simple or double knotter can have knotting units which switch on and off.
