A flexible transparent pipe (2) closed at both ends and fitted with spikes at its lower side is arranged in a circle around the inner surface of a flower pot (6), the spikes keeping the pipe (2) at a short distance above the compost (5). The device (2) can be filled with water or a water and fertilizer mix as required through an inlet (4) located on top of the pipe (2). A row of small holes at the lower side facilitates the steady release of a measured quantity of water into the soil (5).
