The clamping device is used for tool, steel girder or machine construction and the chuck jaws (8), which are arranged at 120 deg. to each other, are clamped firmly against the outside of the adapter mounting (1). This mounting is cylindrical and contains an axial bore (5) for receiving the workpiece, the bore diameter corresponding to the given size of the diagonal for the profile. Two coaxial grooves (4) extending at an angle of 120 deg. to each other are provided on the outside of the mounting. A coaxial slot (3) extending at an angle of 120 deg. to both of the grooves is also provided on the outside of the mounting. The grooves and slot extend parallel to each other in the mounting length direction and the slot extends from the bore to the outside of the mounting.
