The cleaning device for a conveyor belt has a cleaning belt (2) with an adhesion coating and a contacting means (6b) for bringing the adhesion coating in contact with the conveyor belt. The adhesion coating of the cleaning belt is selected so that the adhesion of dirt on the conveyor belt to the cleaning belt is higher than to the conveyor belt. The adhesion coating contains a thermoplastic compound. A heating device (3) is provided to heat the adhesion coating to a temperature whereby the adhesion coating has an adhesion action for the dirt on the conveyor belt.
