The device for the cutting of two partially overlapping floor covering strips (35,36) comprises a hand-guided circular saw (12), with a saw head (13) supporting the saw blade, a bearing surface movable in relation to it and interacting with a depth of cut adjuster (22), and a guide device (25) connected to the bearing surface and with a guide face running parallel to the plane of the saw cut. The dimensions of the guide face perpendicular to the bearing surface are smaller than the minimum thickness of one floor covering strip.
