A ground spike for securing a post or a mast has a plastic moulded conical tip (3) with an outer self cutting thread (5) and an upper cylindrical metal sleeve (2) into which the mast/post is fitted. The tip is made of an elastic, tensile plastic which easily slides around stones in the soil. Internal ribs and a shaped outer tip (4) complete the moulding. A corrosion protected metal sleeve (2) is fitted to the top of the tip via a shaped seat. The top of the sleeve is fitted with holes for a tommy bar and for threaded fasteners to secure the post.
