The tensioning and lifting device for tarpaulin cover upper sections has a plastic or rubber air hose (1) which fits under the upper section of the tarpaulin, is orientated in the vehicle's longitudinal direction, lies upon the cross members (12) of the vehicle's body, and is closed on all sides. The air hose can be connected to a compressor to inflate it and to atmosphere for emptying it. The air hose in the inflated working state has a circular cross section. The inflation and deflation of the hose can be remotely controlled.
