The awning for a vehicle has a winding drum (1) upon which is wound an unwound an awning canvas (8). The drum has a first longitudinal slot (1a) for the fastening of one edge of the awning canvas, and a second longitudinal slot (1b) for the fastening of one edge of a second canvas section. One or both slots have a cross sectional widening to receive a thickening provided on the edges of the canvas sections. The two longitudinal slots are offset on the drum by about 90 degrees.
