A connection connects the working-head (12) to a motor-driven positioner (16), with a rotary drive mechanism for turning the splitter element (4). A stop (8) positioned beneath the splitter element, prevents the piece of wood (6) being split from turning with the splitter element. The stop has a divider (10) movable into a horizontal position.
