The splitter has a product switch (02) that is provided with a guide element. The guide element is moved to two different positions such that the product (01) is conveyed in respected conveying paths (03,06,08). The control units are arranged for controlling the change in position of the guide element by a drive unit. The drive unit is an electromagnetically or pressure-medium-operated pressure and/or traction actuator. An independent claim is included for a method for dividing product stream.
