An automotive headlamp has a cleaning water jet (26) mounted on the end of a telescopic rod (16) that extends under power by a piston (20) and connecting rod (22) sliding through a cylinder (18). The cylinder has an internal fibrous or porous wiper ring (30) which also surrounds and removes foreign particles from the connecting rod surface as this moves back and forth. The ring (30) is esp. located at a position where it only comes into contact with a constant cross section of the connecting rod.
