摘要
An incapacitant mixture comprises pelargonic acid vanillylamide (PAVA) and a solvent, and the mixture can induce temporary blindness in a human or animal. Also claimed is an incapacitant spray comprising a means for storing and delivering the above mixture. Preferably the mixture can induce temporary blindness for 5 minutes and it contains 1% or less (more preferably 0.01-0.65%) of PAVA. The solvent is ethanol, water, isopropanol, methyl chloride or methanol. The incapacitant may be PAVA or primarily PAVA with other incapacitants, e.g. CS, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) or CN gas. The mixture may also contain a dye or marker. (1) PAVA (0.64%), 50:50 water:isopropanol and a propellent or (2) PAVA (0.01%), alcohol (preferably isopropanol) (3%), water (96.99%) and a propellant (preferably carbon dioxide). The delivery system uses an aerosol propellant or pressurised air to expel the mixture from the storage means, preferably a canister.
