A method of transferring data in a bus system consisting of several segments (S1-S4) involves using bridges (B1-B3) between bus segments which pass data packets on to the next segment depending on path information corresp. to the packets and contg. target addresses consisting of target subscriber segment end identity. The bus segments which can be reached via it are stored in each bridge. The bridge will transfer a packet if the packet contains the identifier of a segment which can be reached via it. ADVANTAGE - Eliminates need for packets to contain routing information.
