The invention relates to a chain link (1) for energy transmission chains, comprising two parallel side links (2, 3) and two cross-members (4, 5) which join the side links. At least one of the cross-members on its inside has a groove (17) running in the width direction of the chain link and presenting a toothing (19). Between the cross-members separating links (6, 7) are arranged which are substantially parallel to the side links (2, 3) and each have at least one tooth (16) designed to engage the toothing (19) of the groove. Each separating link can be displaced between a meshing position in which its tooth (16) engages the toothing in the groove and a release position in which its tooth does not engage said toothing.
