The tuberculocidal activity of a quat. ammonium salt (I) is increased by contacting bacteria with a disinfectant compsn. (A) contg. at least 8% alkylene glycol monoalkyl ether (II). (II) is a mono-, di- or tri- (2-6C straight or branched) alkylene glycol in which the alkyl part of the ether is 1-6C, straight or branched. The wt. ratio (II):(I) is at least 4 (esp. at least 40:1) and both components are present in the same soln., esp. of (I) content 0.1-2, wt.%, opt. together with 1-5 wt.% EDTA.
