Process for recycling residual carbon dioxide from industrial installations by conversion to a synthesis gas, and ultimately methanol, to compensate for diffuse carbon dioxide emissions from transport vehicles. The carbon dioxide is transformed into a gaseous mixture for the synthesis of methanol(2 moles of hydrogen to one mole of carbon monoxide) by oxo-reductive retroconversion at 1000 - 2000 deg C. using oxygen and hydrogen obtained by electrolysis of water ; the Kwh of energy required being obtained from non-polluting sources.
