The device for making a covering roof over an existing roof makes use of several longitudinal profiled elements (1) which fit into each other. Each element comprises a longitudinal band (3) and two lateral support webs (4,12) which are supported on a side (11) of the existing roof. An upper web (8) connected to the upper edge of the band by an upper lateral segment (7) constituting a projecting shape is returned towards the underside of the roof side. The lower web connected to the lower edge of the band by a lower lateral edge (16) comprising a re-entrant part (17) overhangs beyond the band. The dimensions of the re-entrant part are such as to allow the projecting part of the upper lateral edge of an adjacent element to be introduced.
