The roof structure comprises rafters fixed to metallic purlins having a transverse section giving them a large longitudinal rigidity whilst preventing the creation of zones susceptible to retaining impurities resulting from washing or disinfecting. Each purlin consists of a vertical web (1) folded at each of its lateral ends to constitute extending support webs. The roof covering elements (C) are constituted by panels made from parallel metal sheets (2,3) between which insulating material (4) is inserted.
