An electro-optical device (1), incorporating an essentially transparent medium (3) and some means (60, 61) to apply an electric or magnetic field to the medium, also incorporates anisotropic pigment particles (4) suspended in the medium. These anisotropic particles are able to act on an incident light and orient themselves in the medium as a function of the field that is applied to them. An Independent claim is also included for the fabrication of this electro-optical device.
