Method in which: a collection of points having a correspondence with points in a known data collection are selected; two perpendicular planes are defined in 3-D space and equations defining organ deformation relative to the planes with unknown parameters are defined; the unknown parameters are calculated by use of the known correspondences; and the explicit deformation equations are extrapolated from the known points to all of image points of an organ using spatial weighting. An Independent claim is made for an instrument for determining the deformation of a 3-D object between image sets.
