The drive mechanism, incorporating a frame supporting a shaft with a rotating inertia mass (2) in the form of a flywheel (3) and an additional disc (4), has the inertia increased by a pair of sliding weights (7, 8) that are moved from side to side by a motor (9) to increase the force applied to the inertia weight on the downward side and reduce it on the upward side. The weights are moved along guides (5, 6) by a rack and pinion mechanism with the rack (10) connecting the weights and the pinion (11) driven by the motor (9).
