A buffer capacitor (10) is connected to a piezoelectric power stage (12) within a control unit (14). The power stage supplies the piezoelectric fuel injectors (16) through cable connections (30,32) which include a bridge (24) normally earthing the bases of bipolar npn or MOSFET transistors. When the cable connections are opened the transistors conduct discharging the capacitor and preventing recharge by signalling a control box (22)
