Method involves segmenting image in order to identify a region of interest and processing segmented image to identify a nodule. During processing an ellipsoid is inscribed in a region of interest in order to decide if the elements within it correspond to a nodule. For each zone of the region of interest extending outside the ellipsoid image elements that do not belong to the module are identified using mathematical morphology criteria. The invention also relates to a corresponding X-ray tomo-densitometry system.
