The luggage rack is constituted from two U-shaped structures (2,3) each formed by two lateral legs (6,7,8,9) assembled by upper crosspieces (10,11). The two structures are joined by an articulation axis (4) connecting their lateral legs in pairs to form a cross unit. A flexible structure (5) connects the upper crosspieces. The small U-shaped structure (2) has a height (a) above the articulation axis less than the distance (b) between the axis and the lower level of the large structure crosspiece. This allows the two structures to be placed in the same plane when the device is unfolded.
