The transmission system, between a primary driven shaft (1) and an output shaft (2), e.g. for driving the wheels of a self-propelled lawn mower, incorporates a reduction gear mechanism comprising, for instance, an endless screw (3) and toothed gear (4), and a clutch. The clutch comprises two hubs (5, 6) with plain bearings, engaged and disengaged by a coil spring (7), and fixed respectively to the reduction gear by a circlip and to the output shaft by a pin.
