The seat locking/unlocking mechanism releases a locking state between lower (1) and upper (2) rails by rotating the seat back downwards towards the front to allow the upper rail to slide on the lower rail. It comprises a rotating support (18) able to pivot on a lower arm (3) fixed to the upper rail. An activating lever (20) activating a catch mechanism is fixed to a rotating pin (17) supporting the rotating support. A cable (15) is connected to the rotating support and a hook (22) can pivot on the lateral part of the lower arm. A detection element (29) can thus rotate. A hook projecting part (25) can be engaged or disengaged in a notch (31) in the rotating support.
