Porous inorganic material with defined porosity, surface area and pore size, useful as an absorbent, a polymer matrix reinforcing material, an insulating material or a filler for concrete
Porous inorganic material (I) with a porosity of at least 80 vol.% and a BET (Brunauer Emmett Teller) surface area of at least 800 m2/cm3 comprises pores with a size of 2-20 nm and pores with a size of 50-250 nm. An Independent claim is also included for production of the high-porosity inorganic material by: (a) preparing a homogeneous aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic mixture of (i) an inorganic precursor of an inorganic phase, (ii) a dendritic organic polymer with surface functional groups capable of forming strong bonds with the inorganic precursor or the inorganic phase and (iii) a nonionic surfactant, where the molar ratio of precursor to functional groups is 2-50, the molar ratio of precursor to polymer is 100-5000 and the molar ratio of surfactant to precursor is 0.05-0.30; (b) forming a solid inorganic phase within the mixture; and (c) removing the polymer and surfactant. The total amount of solvent(s) added in steps (a) and (b) is such that the polymer concentration at the end of step (b) is 0.01-10 mmole/l.
