A projectile, for use with a lightweight firearm, comprises two hinged semi-cylindrical halves (1, 1') with flat inner surfaces (2, 2') that deploy on leaving the firearm barrel, causing the projectile to spin like an aircraft propeller. The forward end of the projectile has a central recess (6) formed by two adjoining chamfered edges (5, 5'), and at its rear end the two halves are joined together by a diametrical strip (4) or, in a variant by a soft metal connector.
