Firearm for spinning projectile - has spiral ribs or grooves formed electrolytically in smooth-walled barrel

The firearm is designed to impart spin to the projectile to stabilise it in flight. It is mfd. with a smooth-walled barrel(1) and one or more spiral ribs(2, 3, 5) are then formed in the barrel by electrolytic deposition and/or there can be a spiral groove formed by electrolytic erosion. Deposition of the ribs can be performed by galvanic action on the smooth barrel wall. The ribs and/or grooves can be covered by a continuous protective coating as a supplementary measure, and the ribs and coating can be formed simultaneously.
