New dual molecules (I) are based on a metal porphyrin nucleus and contain at least one 2- or 4-aminopyridyl group and at least one N-alkyl-pyridinium-yl group. Dual molecules of formula (I), based on porphyrin and aminopyridine derivatives, and their salts are new. R1 - R4 = H, aminopyridine group of formula (a) or (b) or N-alkyl-pyridinium-yl group of formula (c); R5 - R8 = H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or aryl; or two or more of R5 - R8 may together complete a 5- or 6-membered aromatic ring, itself optionally substituted by halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or aryl or extended by a 5- or 6-membered aromatic ring; Q = linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbylene, optionally substituted, interrupted and/or terminated by heteroatom(s) such as N, O or S, by one or more of 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy or aryl groups or by one or more of ether, ester, amide, carbonyl, carbamate, urea, thiourea or disulfide functions; one of X1 - X3 = N+-R9 and the others = CH; R9 = H, 1-4C alkyl or group (a) or (b); A = organic or mineral anion; M = metal which is inert to oxidation or has redox properties; provided that (I) contains at least one group (a) or (b) and at least one group (c). An Independent claim is included for the preparation of (I).
