Automatic identification of image regions of interest for user selection of a region of interest as a zoom target

Analysis of an image to automatically identify regions of interest in the image, presentation of the results of the analysis to a user and user selection of a region of interest as a zoom target are described. An image processor (9) analyses the image to automatically identify potential regions of interest. The user then operates an image selector (13) to select a region of interest as a zoom target, the selected region of interest being zoomed in a fashion desired by the user. The image processor (9) may pan over the image as zooming of the selected region of interest is performed in order to maintain the selected region of interest within the portion of image displayed on the display (11).
