A fluid ejection assembly comprised of a fluid ejection device (200) such as an inkjet printer, or a plurality of aligned fluid ejection devices, on a supporting frame (100) known as a printbar for page wide array printing involves provision of datum surfaces on each ejection device in two orthogonally related planes. First datum surfaces (260, 262, 264, Figs. 3a and 3b) on the bottom of the devices engage frame supports (150, Fig. 6) to support the devices in a Z direction and second datum surfaces (270, 272, Fig. 4) on opposite generally vertically extending sides of the fluid ejection devices are provided near the remote ends of the devices outwardly of electrical interconnects (242, 252, Fig. 5a) resiliently contact electrical interconnects mounted on the frame causing rotation of the devices to position the second datum surfaces (270, 272, Fig. 4) on the devices against positioning surfaces (274, 276, Figs. 4 and 7) on the printbar to hold each fluid ejection device in the correct position.
