The invention relates to a compressible fill comprising starch, where said fill preferably includes at least one layer of a water insoluble material such as expanded polystyrene, and at least one layer of starch material, the layers being arranged alternately where there is more than one layer of each type of material. A further aspect discloses a method including the steps of pouring concrete onto a platform of one or more compressible starch fills. One advantage of using a starch based material is that it biodegrades in contact with water.
