PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more safely and inexpensively producing an aromatic ketone in high yield through reducing the emission of chemical substances as by-products and environmental pollutants, and to provide an acylation catalyst for the method.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the aromatic ketone using a carboxylic acid as an acylating agent comprises carrying out a dehydrating condensation reaction between an aromatic compound and the carboxylic acid in the presence of a catalytic amount of a Lewis acid catalyst of general formula(I):MXm-Ln( wherein, M is a metal ion selected from Bi, Ga, In, Hf and rare earth element; X is a bis(perfluoroalkanesulfonyl)amide anion; L is a neutral molecule capable of coordinating with M; m is the valence of the metallic M; and n is an integer of 0-10 ).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
