PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately compute potential distribution of practical value by taking into consideration: the resistance, dielectric constant, thickness of each layer constituting an intermediate transfer device; processing speed; and the thickness, dielectric constant, resistance, etc., of a photoreceptor.;SOLUTION: A potential distribution analyzing method in which potential distribution is computed corresponding to parameters affecting the potential distribution has: a computation region dividing process in which the computation region is divided to form a plurality of cells; a potential calculating process in which the potential of each cell obtained in the computation region dividing process is calculated; a process for calculating the amount of transfer charge in which the amount of electric charge flowing in or out of each cell obtained in the computation region dividing process is calculated; a process for calculating potential difference transfer charge in which the amount of electric charge flowing in or out of each cell obtained in the computation region dividing process is calculated; and a process for calculating the amount of discharge charge in which the amount of electric charge flowing in or out of each cell obtained in the computation region dividing process is calculated.
