ABERRATION CORRECTION ELEMENT, ABERRATION CORRECTION DEVICE, INFORMATION RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS, AND ABERRATION CORRECTION METHOD

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aberration correction element which can divide the return light from a disk to a plurality of regions without newly adding optical components while correcting aberrations, and to provide an aberration correction device, an optical pickup, and an aberration correction method. PSOLUTION: The aberration correction element is provided with a liquid crystal panel 14 for correcting the aberrations of a light beam of a forward path and a liquid crystal panel 15 for correcting the aberrations of the light beam of a backward path and dividing the light beam of the backward path to a plurality of regions. The panel 14 and the panel 15 have respective divided electrode portions and afford the phase distributions for the purpose of the aberration correction and the division by changing the refractive indices of the respective liquid crystals of the electrode portions by a liquid crystal driving circuit 13. Also, the panel 15 superposes first electrode patterns for correcting the aberrations included in the light beam of the backward path and second electrode patterns for dividing the light beam to a plurality of the light beams, thereby playing the functions of the aberrations and the division with one sheet of the liquid crystal panel.
